Summer Leadership Intensives
Each summer, Healthy Congregations offers opportunities to engage in study of the application of systems thinking to theology, leadership and organizational process in a concentrated time frame.
Modeled on our year-long Leadership Series, Summer Intensives give the opportunity to focus on the work of thinking about emotional process and leadership in a three day format. Beginning at 8:30 am and ending at 4:30 pm each day, the programs present theoretical perspectives, theological exploration and workplace and family application.
Each morning will be spent in the presentation of theory and practice around systems thinking. Afternoon sessions will focus on small group coaching applying the morning presentations to family or workplace.

Preparation for the Intensives:
There are no prerequisites to register. Participants are encouraged but not required to review or read one of Roberta Gilbert’s texts on family systems thinking: Connecting with our Children; Extraordinary Relationships; The Eight Concepts; or Extraordinary Leadership.Other options for reading and study will be explored during the three days of the seminar. If you have already completed a family diagram, please bring that with you.
Rev. Emlyn A. Ott, D.Min.
Emlyn Ott is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America and has served as a parish
pastor, campus minister, pastoral counselor, leader,
and seminary professor for over 25 years. She was
named CEO and Director of Healthy Congregations,
Inc. in 2005. She holds a Master of Divinity from the
Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, a Doctor of
Ministry from Phillips Theological Seminary, and is a
Clinical Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral
Counselors. She has participated for nine years in
postgraduate work at the Center for Family Process
and the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. Dr.
Ott currently serves as Assistant Professor of Ministry
and Pastoral Leadership and Dean of Leadership
Formation at Trinity Lutheran Seminary.
